One app for everything you go online to do

Pick a country, hit connect, and the internet stops caring where you are.

Stream without the restriction

Watch shows, sports and live TV locked to other regions by connecting to a server there first.

Game with lower latency

Route through a server closer to the game server to cut lag, dodge IP bans, and unlock region-locked lobbies and early releases.

Take your home internet abroad

Travelling? Get back your home streaming, banking and websites that block you the moment you leave the country.

Stay safe on public WiFi

Café, airport and hotel networks are wide open. ROOT encrypts everything so no one on the same WiFi can see a thing.

Keep advertisers off your trail

Hide your IP and real location from trackers, data brokers and your own ISP. What you do online stays yours.

Get online where VPNs are blocked

On a network that blocks VPNs? ROOT's stealth mode looks like ordinary web traffic, so you connect anyway.

Fast where it counts, quiet everywhere else

Built for speed

WireGuard tunnels with BBR on every exit. HD streaming and low lag gaming, not the buffering you expect from free VPNs.

No activity logs

We don't record where you go or what you do. Your browsing isn't stored, and it isn't for sale.

Every device, one account

Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, up to 10 devices at once, all covered by a single login.

Ads & malware blocked

Trackers, ad and phishing domains filtered at the VPN's DNS layer, cleaner, faster pages on everything you own.

One tap to connect

Open the app, tap once, you're on. Auto-connect on untrusted WiFi and a kill switch if the tunnel ever drops.

Works on restrictive networks

Four protocols—WireGuard, REALITY, Shadowsocks and Hysteria2—so you stay connected on networks that block VPNs or have poor stability.

Honest by design

Most free VPNs pay for themselves by logging you and selling the data. ROOT is built the other way round.

No activity logs, nothing to sell

We don't record the sites you visit or what you stream, so there's nothing to hand over and nothing to sell. Read exactly what we log and what we don't.

Sharing is off by default

The free plan is supported by our Server-Secured P2P Network: members can opt in to share a little idle bandwidth. It stays off until you switch it on, and you can turn it back off in one tap, any time.

UK based, GDPR native

ROOT VPN LTD is a UK company that builds to GDPR from the ground up, not a shell in an unknown jurisdiction. Clear terms, real support, one honest price.

Connected in under a minute

Download the app

Grab ROOT for your device, it installs in a few seconds, no setup to fuss with.

Create a free account

An email and a password. No card, no trial countdown, nothing to cancel.

Pick a country & connect

Choose where you want to appear, hit connect, and you're browsing from there.

Built for more than browsing

The features power users check for first, included on ROOT.

Tor over VPN

Connect to a Tor enabled server and your traffic goes VPN first, then through the Tor network, in one tap. Reach .onion sites in any browser, and Tor's entry node never sees your real IP. No Tor Browser or setup required.

P2P & BitTorrent friendly

Torrenting and other sharing protocols are allowed on every server, no throttling, no port blocks, no "P2P servers only" hunt. Pair it with the kill switch and your real IP never appears in a swarm.

Local network access

Stay connected to the VPN and still reach your printer, NAS, Chromecast and game consoles at home. Flip "Allow LAN" in settings and local devices keep working while everything else stays encrypted.

How our network works

ROOT runs its own dedicated servers, backed by an optional community layer. Here is the honest version, in plain terms.

Dedicated ROOT servers

Every connection runs through servers we operate, on open protocols like WireGuard. This is the backbone of the network, and it is what paid plans use from end to end.

An optional community layer

The free tier is supported by members who choose to share a little idle bandwidth, so their device can act as a residential exit that helps carry allow-listed traffic for others, including verified business customers. It is off by default and switches off in one tap.

Server-secured, not raw peer-to-peer

All traffic is routed, encrypted, whitelisted and filtered through ROOT's own servers first. No device carries raw traffic, and no user connects straight to another user's device. The server is always the hub.

We call this a Server-Secured P2P Network. Peers supply residential exit IPs, but our servers control, secure and filter every connection. The difference from a network like Hola is consent and control: Hola ran hidden and routed unchecked traffic straight between strangers, with no consent and no way to turn it off. ROOT is opt in and off by default, every connection is filtered through our own servers, and we are upfront about how shared bandwidth is used in the Bandwidth Sharing Terms you agree to before you switch it on.

Countries you can connect to

Pick a country, appear there. These are the most popular of our locations, each with its own page showing latency, streaming support and what services work best from there.

Free accounts connect to the fastest location automatically. Plus unlocks the full country list with city level choice in the big ones.

Good questions

Is it really free?
Yes, free forever, no card, no trial that ends. The free plan is supported by our Server-Secured P2P Network, an optional community layer you can switch on or off in the app. We never sell your data.
What is the Server-Secured P2P Network?
ROOT runs its own dedicated servers, and the free tier is helped along by members who opt in to share a little idle bandwidth, so their device can act as a residential exit for others. Every connection still routes through ROOT's servers first, where it is encrypted, whitelisted and filtered. No device ever carries raw traffic and no user connects straight to another user's device, the server is always the hub. It is off by default, and unlike Hola it is opt in and server-filtered, and how shared bandwidth is used is set out plainly in the Bandwidth Sharing Terms before you turn it on. See how our network works.
Can I use it to stream?
That's what most people use it for. Connect to a server in the country whose library or match you want, then open your app as normal. WireGuard keeps it fast enough for HD.
How many devices can I use?
Up to 10 at once on Plus and Pro, phone, laptop, tablet and TV box all on one account, at the same time.
Do you keep logs of what I do?
No. ROOT keeps no activity logs, not the sites you visit, not what you stream. There's nothing to hand over and nothing to sell.
Which countries can I connect to?
Dozens of countries across every major region, with city level choice in the big ones, see the country list. Free users get the fastest automatic location; Plus unlocks the full list. We are adding locations as the network grows.
Can I torrent on ROOT?
Yes. BitTorrent and other P2P protocols are allowed on every server, there's no separate "P2P server" list and no throttling. Turn on the kill switch so your real IP is never exposed if the tunnel drops. More in our guide to torrenting safely with a VPN.
What is Tor over VPN?
Pick a Tor enabled location and ROOT routes your traffic through the VPN and then into the Tor network automatically. You can open .onion sites in any browser, and the Tor entry node only ever sees the VPN server, not you. Read how Tor over VPN works.
Can I still reach devices on my home network?
Yes, enable "Allow LAN" in the app's settings and printers, NAS drives, Chromecasts and consoles on your local network stay reachable while the rest of your traffic goes through the encrypted tunnel. See how Allow LAN works.
